How to keep fruits and vegetables fresh for longer
· 1 min read
Simple tips for storing produce in and out of the fridge and reducing waste.
Some fruits such as apples and bananas release ethylene gas that speeds up ripening nearby, so keep them away from leafy greens.
In the fridge
- Leafy greens: in a perforated bag with a paper towel to absorb moisture.
- Carrots and cucumbers: in the crisper drawer.
Outside the fridge
- Tomatoes, bananas, potatoes and onions in a cool, dry place — keep potatoes and onions apart.
Wash produce right before use, not before storing.
